Since being selected third overall by the Denver Nuggets in the 2003 NBA Draft, Carmelo Anthony has made it a priority to remain involved in the community. The Carmelo Anthony Foundation was established in 2005 as the vehicle for which Carmelo Anthony and his family give back to the community through a variety of outreach programs and donations. The Foundation’s mission is to invest in programs and community organizations that provide opportunities for underserved kids and families.

In 2006, The Giving Back Fund named Carmelo eighth on a list of 30 celebrity philanthropists in America in their “The Giving Back 30” report. He was the only basketball player on this list, and was joined in the top tier by celebrities such as Oprah Winfrey and Tiger Woods. Carmelo was recognized for making charitable donations in excess of $4 million for projects that included establishing the Carmelo Anthony Youth Development Center in Baltimore, and a grant to Syracuse University for a newly-planned basketball practice facility which will bear his name.

Among The Carmelo Anthony Foundation’s activities include his Annual Melo’s H.O.O.D Movement: The BMore Weekend in Baltimore, fundraising events in Denver and Syracuse, and the multi-city rollout of “A Very Melo Christmas” later this year. Each activity is a direct reflection of his long-term commitment to efforts that improve the communities of Baltimore, Denver and Syracuse. Carmelo will be dedicating a significant amount of time this summer and beyond to serving and benefiting each community through his Foundation.
