Nick & Christina Markakis

Nick Markakis is the starting right fielder for the Baltimore Orioles and one of the premiere young players in Major League Baseball. Coming off a 2008 season in which he set career highs in average (.306), on-base percentage (.406) and slugging percentage (.491), Nick signed a contract extension with the Orioles in January 2009 that will keep him with the team through the 2014 season. Highly regarded for his defense, he led the American League with 17 outfield assists while also finishing in the top 10 in a number of categories, including average, OBP, games played (157), walks (99), doubles (48), runs (106), hits (182) and extra-base hits (69).

Recently married and a new father, Nick and his wife Christina decided to formalize their philanthropic efforts through the establishment of The Right Side Foundation. The couple announced the name, logo and scope of the Foundation at a press conference on May 26th at Oriole Park at Camden Yards. The organization’s mission is to help improve the lives of distressed children throughout the State of Maryland.

Maroon PR is assisting Nick and Christina Markakis in the establishment of their non-profit organization. The firm’s responsibilities include establishing the Foundation’s name; designing its logo, collateral materials and website; handling all public relations initiatives tied to the organization; managing and promoting programs related to the organization; investigating fundraising and corporate partnership opportunities; and raising awareness of Nick and Christina’s philanthropic endeavors. In addition, Maroon PR is utilizing its extensive contacts in the sports media to increase awareness of Nick’s standing as a marquee member of the Baltimore Orioles, as well as an elite player in Major League Baseball.
