Baltimore Grand Prix
Bringing Racing to Baltimore
Baltimore Racing Development (BRD) was formed to bring a “Baltimore Grand Prix” street race to Baltimore in 2011. The race would be sanctioned by the Indy Racing League (IRL), the premiere “open-wheel” racing circuit in the U.S., and occur over four days on a designated street course throughout several streets in downtown Baltimore (i.e. Pratt, Russell, etc.).
The IRL’s season includes races in traditional oval tracks, including the world-famous Indianapolis 500, and on temporary “Grand Prix” street tracks such as in Long Beach, CA and St. Petersburg, FL. IRL stars like Danica Patrick, Helio Castroneves and Dario Franchitti have become household names, and the BRD team consists of legendary driver, Al Unser, Jr. – a two-time Indianapolis 500 winner. BRD projects that the “Baltimore Grand Prix” would attract over 150,000 visitors to Baltimore and generate roughly $100 million in economic impact over four days.
