Constellation Energy Senior Players Championship
Challenge
Maroon PR was tapped to help promote the Constellation Energy Senior Players Championship by managing all media relations and public relations efforts surrounding the tournament, as well as by creating a strategic advertising plan and managing the media buy for the weeklong event in 2008. In addition, Maroon PR handled all of the media buying by managing, creating and implementing all of the advertising partnerships for the 2009 event.
The major championship on the PGA TOUR Champions Tour took place at Baltimore Country Club from October 6 – 12, 2008 and September 28 – October 4, 2009. The fall is a busy time for sports fans in the Baltimore metropolitan area, presenting a crowded sports landscape with numerous other events and teams competing for the attention and limited dollars available from area fans through ticket sales and attendance.
The campaign needed to drive awareness for the Constellation Energy Senior Players Championship amid other noteworthy events vying for attention in the marketplace, such as Baltimore Ravens football, Major League Baseball playoffs, University of Maryland football, and the annual Baltimore Running Festival and Marathon, just to mention a few.
Strategy & Results
Maroon PR designed an advertising campaign to help promote general awareness in the marketplace in the weeks leading up to the 2008 and 2009 events, promote ticket sales and create a “buzz” throughout tournament week.
Maroon PR designed the advertising campaign to leverage our existing relationships in the media market and maximize opportunities to help grow the value of our various media buys where possible beyond the standard rate card value. Despite a limited budget to extend the campaign over a month-long period, the resulting advertising campaign included local and regional print, such as daily newspapers, business journals, and lifestyle magazines, as well as radio, television, online and outdoor advertising opportunities.
Maroon PR included signage and advertising in high-traffic retail areas, as well as high-traffic outdoor opportunities. We included traditional print, radio and television advertising outlets, as well as cost-effective and high-return online media opportunities and E-blasts to reach specific audiences meeting our event’s demographics, such as golf fans, as well as the business community, families and other potential attendees through various high-profile websites. Maroon PR also provided tickets for on-air radio giveaways to help raise awareness.
The Constellation Energy Senior Players Championship has continued to grow in attendance numbers over the past two years and gain recognition as an important local event. The 2008 and 2009 events were supported by local sports fans and corporate partners alike. In addition, the Senior Players Championship is proud to continue its history of supporting its local non-profit partners with all net proceeds raised at the event.
The Constellation Energy Senior Players Championship looks forward to returning to Baltimore Country Club in 2010.
