Maureen Smith came to Maroon PR in January 2012 as the company’s Chief Marketing and Operations Office. In that role, Smith leads various strategic marketing activities in the organization, aids in business development, and is responsible for the daily operation of the agency.
Smith’s integrity, multi-dimensional management skills, and proven business success have helped to establish her reputation as a highly effective leader from her earliest days at FOX Broadcasting through her simultaneous presidencies at FOX Family Channel (now known as ABC Family) and FOX Kids Network (now known as Disney XD), to taking the reigns as the head of Discovery Communication’s Animal Planet television network and, later, ePals, Inc, where she served as CEO. Most recently, she expanded her skill set and knowledge base by serving as the president of the Jane Goodall Institute (JGI) - a global non-profit organization founded by legendary primatologist Dr. Jane Goodall devoted to wildlife conservation, research, and education.
Combining her expertise in qualitative and quantitative consumer insight research with a proven instinct for what consumers will respond to, content and marketing campaigns created under Maureen’s leadership not only resonated with their target audiences, they have also earned many prestigious industry honors including: Emmy Awards; Telly Awards; PROMaxBDA Awards; the International Licensing Industry Merchandisers’ Association Awards; Parent’s Choice Awards; Genesis Awards; New York and Chicago Film Festival Awards; Peabody Awards; and the Humanitas Prize.
Maureen Smith has twice been named one of the 100 most powerful women in entertainment by The Hollywood Reporter magazine, received a People of Vision Award from Retinitis Pigmentosa International for being the leader of the first television network to provide programming narrated for the blind, and was honored by the Starlight Children’s Foundation for helping to grant wishes to terminally ill children. She has been profiled in The Washington Post, Smart Money and Smart CEO magazines and the business book, The Opt-Out Revolt: Why People are Leaving Companies to Create Kaleidoscope Careers. She majored in Communications at the University of Southern California where she received an Outstanding Senior recognition award. She, her husband (an elementary school teacher), their two sons and two very energetic beagles reside in Maryland.
