"Press Pass" with John Maroon

John Maroon is one of the most well-respected PR professionals in the country. In 2006, the Ellicott City resident launched Maroon PR, a full service full-service public relations and marketing firm specializing in sports properties, nonprofit organizations and small-to-mid-size businesses.

Prior to opening his agency, Maroon managed the PR departments for two Major League Baseball (MLB) teams (Baltimore Orioles & Cleveland Indians) and a National Football League (NFL) franchise (Washington Redskins). He provided media relations assistance for 12 MLB All-Star Games and Postseasons; the NFL Playoffs and Super Bowl in 2000; and other significant sports related events.

His career also includes overseeing media relations for a number of historic events, including Pope John Paul II’s celebration of mass at Camden Yards in Baltimore and the Orioles’ goodwill trip to Cuba. Maroon has served as the publicist for National Baseball Hall of Famer & MLB’s All-Time Iron Man, Cal Ripken, for more than 15 years.
